How would Confucius answer these questions?

-If you father stole a sheep, would you expose your father?

-Would you turn your father in if he was an insurgent against a good government?|||As i recall, Confucianism is rather "rule oriented" in order that social/cultural structure be upheld. It's balance is Daoism, which is more interested in nature, and natural flow rather than imposed regulations.

I would presume that under Confucian precepts it would be prescribed that "crime" be punished even in the face of filial duty, the state being more "important" than the person.

In "real life" i don't feel that most folks would turn a parent in under the circumstances noted.

However, be it noted that in nazi germany, and in our upcoming dictatorship informing on friends and family members will be encouraged. However, there are no Confucian concepts at issue in either of those cases, eh? :))|||I don't know how would he have answered it...

but he was a saint, so he wouldn't do petty things like that.|||Keep family close, keep enemies closer.

Water does not know what path it will take next. Do you?|||ask him|||Aaaahhh, Confucius say:

"Who's your Daddy"?
