The goal of living is to achieve harmony and enjoyment for oneself and others through acting appropriately in those roles and relationships. These relationships of family extend to the community, for example: teacher = father, senior classmates = elder brother, ruler = father and mother to the people.

Confucius stressed virtue, benevolence, moral integrity, and ritual.

Lao zi was a Taoist, Taoism is all about following the Way or path. You accept the natural way of all things. For example: If you want to go east, but the Tao wants you to go west, then you should go west. If you want to accomplish ten things, but circumstances only allow you to accomplish nine, then accept that. If you meet obstacles to what you want to do you have to have to ask yourself how you can adapt. One should never be too proud to adapt. If you see things are not going your way adapt quickly. By doing it in a smooth and timely manner, you can avoid disrupting the flow of events. This is called Tao.
